Add Take 5 to the long list of teen-manufactured pop bands bred by corporate mogul Lou Perlman's Trans Continental Records. This five-piece boy band based in Orlando came together in 1997. All five members -- Stevie Sculthorpe, Tilky Jones, TJ Christofore, and brothers Clay and Ryan Goodell -- were veteran performers long before the days of screaming fans. Christofore was a 1995 winner of Star Search and played the role of Gavroche in the Broadway musical +Les Miserables. Sculthorpe did some modeling, starred in several commercials, and performed in musical theater. Ryan and Clay Goodell were classically trained pianists and both have dabbled in commercials and musical theater. Jones, on the other hand, was the drummer for a local Vero Beach ska-punk band called User Friendly. With the experience under their belts, Take 5 joined the ranks of fellow boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. Prior to releasing their debut Against All Odds, the boys in Take 5 spent the last two years traveling the globe, releasing several singles and making the girls swoon in Europe and Asia. Their music is tainted with swift R&B vibes laced with glossy pop, but musical influences range from artists like Dru Hill, Stevie Wonder, Maxwell, and Blackstreet to Dave Matthews, Busta Rhymes, and Lenny Kravitz. Persistant in the face of the already packed world of pop sensations, Take 5 released Against All Odds on Elektra in August 2000. MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
