“While he is unorthodox in his approach to his work and the people he works with, there is something amusing and charming about him,” says Steve Valentine of Dr. Nigel Townsend, his “Crossing Jordan” character, a quirky criminalist/forensics expert -- and ex-British soldier. “Out of the myriad of characters I have played, ‘Nigel’ is definitely one of my favorites -- arguably the most multi-faceted and easily the most FUN!”
Valentine’s guest starring role on NBC’s “Just Shoot Me,” in which he played a flamboyant magician who has an affair with Nina (Wendie Malick), was a showstopper that produced a flood of letters and industry talk and gained him rave reviews. His additional comedy series credits include guest starring in such shows as NBC’s “Will & Grace,” “Dharma and Greg” and “The Hughleys,” as well as a recurring role on “Nikki.” He also guest-starred in such drama series as NBC’s “Providence,” “JAG,” “Charmed,” “Martial Law,” “VIP,” “Promised Land” and “Diagnosis Murder.”
Valentine’s feature-film credits include co-starring roles in Albert Brooks’ “The Muse,” with Jeff Bridges and Sharon Stone; Tim Burton’s “Mars Attacks,” “Return to the Secret Garden” and George Huang’s “Trojan War.” He also starred as the Boogeyman in Disney’s “Don’t Look Under the Bed.”
Furthermore, Valentine has starred in acclaimed independent films such as “Santa With Muscles,” portraying the merrily evil Dr. Blight; “Gabriella,” playing the depressed Steven; “Foreign Correspondents,” performing as the irresponsible Ian; and “King of the Open Mikes.” Most recently, he starred in “Dead End,” directed by French wiz kids Jean Baptiste Andrea and Fabrice Canepa.
Valentine’s performances on the stage in both Los Angeles and London have ranged from stand-up comedy to Shakespeare. Among his favorite roles are as Stanley in “Run for Your Wife!” Mozart in “Amadeus,” Valentin in “Moulin Rouge,” Gerald in “An Inspector Calls,” and Sidney in “Deathtrap,” for which he received a Best Actor Falcon Award from the Curtis Theater. Valentine is most proud of his recent performance in Los Angeles as the nightmarish young father in the Blank Theater Company’s production of “REM.”
A native of London, England, Valentine resides in Los Angeles with his wife Shari and their two “weird” cats. In his spare time, he enjoys horseback riding, dancing and riding roller coasters.
Valentine’s birthday is October 26.
