Sridevi Kapoor is an Indian film actress who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and a few Kannada films. Starting to act at the age of four, she made her debut as an adult in the late 1970s. She is regarded as one of the greatest and most popular actresses of Hindi Cinema. She is also often cited as "The First Female Superstar of the Indian Cinema". After establishing herself as one of the most influential and memorable actresses in the history of Bollywood, she left the industry in 1997 to raise her children. Alongside with Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit, she formed the leading trio of actresses of the late 80's and early 90's.
During her career, she has won four Filmfare Best Actress Awards, two for Hindi films, and one each for Tamil and Telugu films. Sridevi is often cited in film media as one of the best actresses of Indian Cinema. After the release of her comeback film English Vinglish (2012), the American entertainment weekly Variety wrote in its review of the film that it found Sridevi "Disarmingly charming in a manner that recalls Audrey Hepburn". After the film's Toronto Premiere, Canadian media outlets hailed her as the "Meryl Streep of India".
