DeWitt is highly respected in the off-Broadway theatre circuit, having appeared in plays such as Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at Second Stage, The Butter and Eggman at the Atlantic Theater, and possibly most notably Craig Lucas' Small Tragedy, for which she and the rest of the cast won an Obie Award.
In 2001 she made the jump from stage to screen acting, earning a role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the first of many high profile films and TV shows, including Sex and the City, Rescue Me, Shut Up And Sing, Love Monkey, Doris, Shut Up and Sing, Purple Violets and Off the Black. In 2006 DeWitt won the role of Emily Lehman in FOX's new hit, Standoff, despite only coming to Hollywood in 2001.
DeWitt is also the granddaughter of legendary fighter Jimmy Braddock; born of his daughter, Rosemarie. Because of her relationship to Braddock, she was very interested in appearing in Ron Howard's feature Cinderella Man, which was based on his life. Howard agreed to hear her read for a part, not intending to give her a role, but was stunned by her talent and gave her the part of Sara Wilson. In a recent interview about Cinderella Man, Rosemarie said "It was the best ever – such a thrill to help tell that story." She has also stated it was one of her favourite experiences as an actor.
In 2007, DeWitt was cast in the AMC drama Mad Men, a depiction of the advertising world in the '60s.
