Rose McGowan was born on September 5, 1973, to a French mother, and an Irish father. She was raised in a 'Children on God' commune in Florence, Italy. Rose has 4 siblings; two brothers, two sisters, She also has 2 half siblings. By the time she was 10, her parents had divorced, and she went to live with her grandmother in Washington. She legally emancipated herself at 15. She moved down to Los Angeles, where she was discovered standing outside of a gym refusing to go in because she thought it would have been 'too corny'.
She landed her first starring role in Gregg Araki's film The Doom Generation, which got her nominated for Best Newcomer at the 1996 Independent Spirit Awards. Also in 1996 she got a supporting role in Wes Craven's Scream, as Sidney Prescott's friend Tatum Riley.
In late 1997, Rose met rocker Marilyn Manson, who had moved to Hollywood hoping to meet her. In February, 1999 she announced their engagement on Howard Stern. In January 2001, Rose said "There is great love, but our lifestyle difference is, unfortunately, even greater," in a statement announcing the couple are breaking off their nearly two-year engagement.
Rose's other projects include the 1997 films Going All the Way, Lewis & Clark & George, Nowhere, and the short film Seed. In 1998, Rose starred with Ben Affleck and Peter O'Toole in the feature thriller Phantoms and in the independent film Southie, which won Best Picture at the 2000 Seattle Film Festival. In 2001 SHE took over from Shannen Doherty, on the WBs hit show Charmed in the role of Paige Matthews, the long lost sister of the Halliwells.
