Bianchi made the not-often successful switch from Serie A to the Premier League where very few Italian strikers have profitted.
And it's fair to say Bianchi did little to change that perception in a stuttering first season in the Premier League which resulted in him spending the second half of the season back in Italy with Lazio.
He began his career with Atalanta, also spending time on loan with Cagliari (they were promoted to Serie A that term), but it was with Reggina that he made his name after joining the club in 2005.
A free-scoring 2006/07 with the club made him a target for Manchester City, who paid £8.8m for his services.
His record for Italy Under-21's - he bagged seven goals in 13 appearances - made him a much-admired player.
He made a scoring debut for Manchester City at West Ham on the opening day of the 2007/8 season.
It proved to be a false dawn for Bianchi, who would score only five goals in 24 games - 14 of those from the bench - before he was made available for loan in January to move to Lazio.
Bianchi has muh work to do to prove his Premier League credentials.
