In 2000, at the age of 16 and needing to pay off his $300 cell phone bill, Rob auditioned to be an extra on the set of the movie "Finding Forrester," which was filming near by. He had no previous acting experience but had heard that extras were paid well. To his surprise he kept getting call-backs until finally he was given the lead role in the movie opposite Sean Connery.
