Rhys was born the second of three boys in South London. After graduating from Westminster College he spent a year living and working in Paris.
He then returned to London to study acting with Marianna Hill at The Lee Strasberg Institute and later with Jeffrey Tambor and Milton Katselas at The Beverly Hills Playhouse in Los Angeles.
Phillip has developed his acting talent with a diverse range of roles across film, television and theatre. Upcoming projects include The Adventures of Tintin directed by Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg released December 23rd, 2011 and The Magnificent Eleven, co- written by Irvine Welsh, the creator of Trainspotting. A modernization of the classic western in which the Cowboys are a struggling local amateur soccer team.
Recently, Rhys starred in Wilde Salome a film written, directed, and also starring Academy Award-winner Al Pacino. An exciting project using a mixture of documentary, fiction, and improvisation to re-interpret Oscar Wilde's most controversial work. Also, The Space Between with Oscar-winner Melissa Leo and the successful drama Survivors which aired for 2 seasons on BBC and BBC America. This re-imagining of the classic 1970s series was set in the present day and focused on a group of survivors in the aftermath of a devastating virus which wiped out most of the world's population. Rhys plays a rich playboy, Al, who suddenly and reluctantly finds himself responsible for an 11-year-old boy; a challenge that will ultimately require him to be a much better man than he was is his old life.
