Paula Zahn was born on February 24, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska. The fetching newscaster didn't stay there for long, however, as her father's job as an IBM sales executive required him to move frequently. In the years that followed, she and her three siblings lived in the sleepy towns of Canton, Ohio and Naperville, Illinois. Reflecting upon the family's many changes of address, Zahn later joked that IBM really stood for "I've been moved."
While her zip code wasn't always consistent, her passion for music was. In fact, Paula's expertise with a cello earned her a scholarship to Stephens College in Missouri. Once enrolled, Paula explored her interest in broadcasting by working for the campus television station. Several years and dozens of news stories later, she graduated with a degree in journalism in 1978.
