Niko is the son of the famous Zlatko Kranjcar, who was a successful player and now a successful Croatian soccer coach. Given his bloodline and the display Niko gave during his initial appearances with Dinamo, it's easy to understand why he was hyped as “the greatest promise in Croatian football.”
Niko has been part of the Croatian national Under-16, -17, -19, and -21 teams and he is now part of the senior national team. On a local level, he spent four successful seasons with Dinamo before the relationship soured near the end. League rival, Hajduk Split, put € 1.5 million (roughly $ 1.8 million) on the table to acquire Niko -- one of the richest transfers in Croatian soccer history -- and he subsequently guided them to a Croatian championship.
He has been compared to soccer superstars like Zinedine Zidane and Frank Lampard, and he continues to show flashes of brilliance that imply he is on a similar track to success.
