Kerr was born on February 20, 1983[4] in Sydney, Australia,[5] and raised near Brisbane, in the Australian rural town of Gunnedah. Her mother's name is Therese, and she has a younger brother named Matthew. She began modeling in 1997, at the age of 13, after winning the Dolly/Impulse Modeling Competition. Local media used her youth as an opportunity to debate about pedophilia and the acceptable age that girls should start modeling, but she kept on working non-stop, appearing often in magazines such as ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, and Vogue. Her fame increased when she was selected as one of the faces to promote the cosmetics giant, Maybelline.[6] and was hand selected as the new face of American fashion brand ARDEN B. In 2006 she was the first ever Australian model to appear in a Victoria's Secret runway show and is one of the models being considered to replace Gisele Bundchen as one of the Victoria's Secret Angels, and she moved to New York.
