Mary Alice Stephenson is the host of VH1's new series America's Most Smartest Model. It was her duty in the premiere episode to preside over the competition, inform us that, yes, the grammatically-incorrect title was an intentional joke, and ask Andre Birleanu to remove his jacket.

These duties might have been tricky for a fashion novice, but luckily Mary Alice comes to the show with some serious credentials. She has been in the industry for 17 years, working as a stylist, creative director and consultant, and she is currently contributing fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar.She recently talked about the experience on America's Most Smartest Model, including her first – and very negative – impressions.

She said “The first impression viewers have was the same one I had, which was, 'Oh my God!' I literally wanted to take the red eye back to New York and get the hell out. I was very prepped to be on the show, and I'm a huge fan of Flavor of Love and I Love New York, so I knew what I was getting myself into. But when I was standing there and all the models walked down the runway, a lot of them were so far from the models that walk the runways of my reality that at first I was like, 'Ooh, help me, Jesus!' But once I got to know who they were, and how serious they were, my attitude changed. Because in their worlds, each of them are models — whether they're a lingerie model, or catalog model, or have shot for Prada.”

What does she think of some of the America's Most Smartest Model contestants? Regarding Mandy Lynn, she says, “Ben really believe[d] in [her], so…I [had] to let her stay. I would have kicked her off the show immediately… But Mandy Lynn had a lot of heart. She really wanted it. So how the contestants reacted to situations, that made me adore them.”

She also loved how seriously Andre took modeling, saying, “If there was a president of the World Modeling Association, Andre could run and win.”Gaston Willig was kicked off at the end of the first episode, and with good reason she would appear to think. Mary Alice said, “There was an actual model in there somewhere. I could see him actually walking the runways. But he was such an idiot — a basket case and really rude — that he had to go.”Who will be next to go? Tune in next week to find out!
