Italian soccer coach, formerly coach of the Juventus, one of the major Italian teams and a consistent winner.
Born in Viareggio, Italy, he played soccer as a child for the Star Viareggio boys team, and in 1970, he joined Sampdoria, playing as a libero. On 2/17/1971, he made his debut on the Italian Under-23 team. During 1981-82, Lippi moved to Serie B Pistoiese and then Serie C Lucchese, before returning to Sampdoria in 1984-85 as their youth team coach. From 1989 to 1991, he coached for Serie A Cesena, taking the team to 12th in the league; however, during 1991, he was fired.
Lippi started as a trainer in 1992, worked for Napoli in '93 and then signed with Juventus on 7/01/1994. Under his guidance, the team won the Italian Cup and European Cup each year from 1994 to 1999. In 1999, he quit his coaching position midway through the season.
