Kunal Nayyar, who is of Indian descent, was born in London, England but was raised in New Dehli, India. Upon his graduation from high school, Nayyar flew to the United States to pursue a college education. He majored in business at the University of Portland in Oregon and while he was there, he also took some acting classes.
He then involved himself with theater, performing at the American College Theater Festival. After which, he earned his master's degree in fine arts from Temple University in Philadelphia. He also appeared in Lovers Labors Lost at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon in England.
In 2004, Kunal made his screen debut in the film S.C.I.E.N.C.E.. He also made a guest appearance as Youssef Zidan in a 2007 episode of NCIS. In 2007, Nayyar landed the role of the astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
