Mazelle's career started in Chicago working with the record producer Marshall Jefferson on the 1987 release "Taste My Love" on the Police Records label.[1]

In 1988 she released the single "Useless (I Don't Need You Now)" which became a hit on the club charts but stalled at #53 on the UK Singles Charts. It was her next release that saw her achieve success, "Wait," a duet with Robert Howard from the Blow Monkeys in 1989 managed to peak at #7 on the UK Singles Chart.

Her next solo single saw Kym hit The Top Thirty on the UK Singles Chart, "Got To Get You Back" was released on the back of her success with "Wait" but only managed to peak at #29 despite touring with Ten City and gaining exposure on programmes such as The Chart Show and Top Of The Pops.

Her debut album Crazy was released in the UK in conjunction with the single "Love Strain" but both stalled in the charts with "Crazy" not even entering the UK Top 75 Album Charts and "Love Strain" missing the UK Top 40 Singles Chart.

Her next release, "Was That All It Was", returned Kym to the UK Top 40 Singles Chart. This was a cover of the Jean Carne Classic and to this day is much sought after and very rarely appears on any compilations but is classed as a dance classic. However this still failed to ignite sales for her album "Crazy".

To capitalize on her success with "Was That All It Was," "Useless (I Don't Need You now)" was remixed By Norman Cook, who at the time was enjoying success with his band Beats International and was becoming a much sought-after remixer, and it's re-release followed suit. However this failed to translate into a successful single release, peaking at #48.

Luckily her next release as a guest vocalist on single "Missing You" by Soul II Soul achieved major success worldwide and she secured another hit, peaking at #22 on the UK Singles Chart. This success led to Parlophone repackaging her debut album as "Brilliant" which contained remixes of her singles plus two new tracks, leading the album with the single "No One Can Love You More Than Me", which was radically remixed from its original form on the album "Crazy". However there had been a big gap between "Missing You" and "No One Can Love You More Than Me" and thus neither the single nor the album achieved success.

However she is probably best known as the singer of the cover version of the song "Young Hearts Run Free" in the 1996 Baz Luhrmann film William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, which also appeared on the director's remix album Something for Everybody. She also appeared on two live albums by Maceo Parker, Live on Planet Groove and My First Name is Maceo.

In 2005, she participated in the British version of the reality TV show, Celebrity Fit Club. She lost 1 stone and 10 pounds during the course of the programme, as well as tearing her calf muscle whilst performing a sudden movement during an exercise routine.[citation needed] After it healed she ripped it again, whilst trying to get out of the way of a moving car.[citation needed]

In 2005, she released her most recent album, The Pleasure is All Mine and a single "Love Magic". She also undertook a tour in the UK.
