Kathy Smith has been a leading force in the wellness industry since 1980, and her diverse capabilities cover all aspects of fitness. A mother of two teenaged daughters, she is a trusted motivator that has sold more than $50 million in infomercial products and over 16 million workout videos worldwide (inducting her into the Video Hall of Fame). As President of Kathy Smith Lifestyles, Kathy continues to develop and lend her signature to a wide array of fitness equipment, apparel and nutrition/health products. She also serves on the board of the USC School of Gerontology and the Women's Sports Foundation. Most recently, she was awarded the IDEA Lifetime Achievement Award from IDEA Health & Fitness, the largest professional fitness organization in the world.
Kathy Smith (born December 11, 1951) is a personal trainer who became well known for her workout videos during the late 1980s and 1990s. She has sold millions of videos and DVDs. Her first video was released in [1988].
Kathy lost her father from a heart attack when she was 17, and lost her mother in a plane crash. The tragedy in her life lead her to start running and doing aerobics. In college, she studied dance kinesiology, exercise physiology and nutrition. She went through a program at UCLA and became certified with IDEA and AFA as a fitness trainer. She also attended the University of Hawaii.
Kathy has produced and starred in twenty best-selling exercise videos, with over seven million copies sold. She invented the Air Bench step trainer and is also co-developer of Kathy Smith Fit-Caps, a line of additive-free vitamins.

Recent highlights include NBC's The Today Show (2004), CNN (2004), Oprah (2002, with 22 million viewers), Good Day New York (2004), The Wayne Brady Show (2004), The Other Half (2002), and regularly on KTLA in Los Angeles. Kathy has been a health and fitness correspondent for The Today Show, as well as a featured health and fitness columnist in the Los Angeles Times and Living Fit magazine.
Although she maintains a demanding schedule, Kathy continues to lend her time to a number of important health-related causes on local and national levels, including pregnancy health with the March of Dimes, young girls and sports with the Women's Sports Foundation, and heart health with the American Heart Association, among others. She has also established the Perrie and Kate Fund, her own grant fund named after her daughters. The fund, which is administered by the Women's Sports Foundation, provides grants, internships, and scholarships to young girls for athletic programs, as Kathy has also been a pivotal leader in prompting sports and fitness to America's youth.
As a mother of two daughters, an entrepreneur, author, and host of her web site, KathySmith.com, Kathy works hard to balance life and career. She has been recognized as a "Healthy America Fitness Leader" with the President's Council on Physical Fitness, and has been a spokesperson for the National Recreation and Parks Association, as well as a national ambassador for the March of Dimes.
