Dennings began her acting career in a 2000 episode of the HBO series Sex and the City, before being cast as a regular on the show, Raising Dad, which was short-lived. Since then, she has appeared in a number of television shows and movies, including the 2005 film The 40-Year-Old Virgin and the 2004 Hilary Duff film Raise Your Voice. Even though Dennings is 20, most of the characters she plays tend to be "rebellious daughters" around 15 or 16.
Dennings also appeared as the character "Zoe" on several episodes of ER in 2005 and 2006, and was a guest star on CSI:NY, playing Sarah Endecott in the 2005 episode "Manhattan Manhunt".
