Jolie Vanier is an actress. Jolie's big breakthrough came in 2008 when writer/director Robert Rodriguez cast her as Helvetica in the Warner Bros. feature film "Shorts". Starring Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann and James Spader, the film was released nationally in August 2009. The young actress attracted numerous positive critical reviews; for instance, "Variety" said "In an ensemble that involves much adult-kid interaction, the most memorable performance belongs to young Vanier. A dead ringer for Christina Ricci circa 'The Addams Family', Vanier is so loveably hateful here, she gets an 'introducing' billing in the credits and even her own musical motif."
Jolie had a supporting role in "Juvenile Delinquence" as well as a leading role in "Detective Clause", both filmed by the Los Angeles Film School in 2008. The LA resident recently finished "Ghild", an independent short film screened in February, 2011 and featured at the New York International Children's Film Festival in March, 2011. Also featuring Jimmy Bennett ("Star Trek", "Shorts") and directed by David Yarovesky (Yarvo Studios), the film is based on a screenplay created by Michael Rosenbaum ("Smallville") and produced by Rosenbaum in conjunction with Yarvo Studios and Rob Danson. "Ghild" won the "Outstanding Achievement in Short Film-making" Award at the Newport Film Festival in 2011. Jolie has also recently completed a new independent short film, "Hello, my name is Abigail", directed by Tim Kressin. The young actress plays a 13-year old who has lived in the foster care system for years and desperately wants to be adopted by a family. A topic of great current interest, this film is destined to attract considerable attention nationally.
The film career has been complemented by numerous stage roles in Los Angeles; for instance, in 2009, Vanier played the role of the Artful Dodger in the Red Carpet Theater Company's production of "Oliver". She played the parts of Rizzo, Consuelo and Penelope in a Red Carpet Theater musical review entitled "Nifty Fifties" presented at Hollywood's historical Stella Adler Theater in the spring of 2010. During the summer of 2011, the young actress played a leading role (all lines performed in French) in "Once on this Island", staged at the American School in Switzerland located in Lugano.
