Meyer is the daughter of Ronald Meyer, President and COO of Universal Studios, and his first wife, Ellen. Her stepfather, from her mother's re-marriage, is Rabbi David Baron (head of the Temple Shalom for the Arts),[1] and her stepmother, from her father's re-marriage, is Kelly Chapman. She got her start in jewelry making alongside her grandmother, Edith Meyer, who taught her the basics of making enamel jewelry when she was just six years old.[2]

As a young adult, Meyer studied Psychology at Syracuse University, then went to work for several fashion houses in the public relations departments, first for Giorgio Armani and later for Ralph Lauren. She also worked for Glamour Magazine as an editor.
