Jennifer Hansen is a former news presenter on Australia's Network Ten and former news presenter on Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Currently Hansen has launched a personal Blog site and will be one of five 'Emerging Bloggers' who will cover events at the 2012 Melbourne Writers Festival. Hansen was born in Orbost, Victoria.
Hansen attended Firbank Girls' Grammar School, in Brighton, Victoria. There, she completed her VCE while also serving as a Prefect, House Captain and co-editor of her school magazine. After leaving Firbank, Hansen studied for an Arts Degree at Melbourne University, where she majored in English Literature and Criminology. She worked for the student publication Farrago as well as writing part time for The Southern Cross, and a Sunday metropolitan newspaper, The Sunday Observer. In her third year of University she applied for a cadetship at Channel Ten and began full-time work there while at the same time, completing the third year of her degree.
Hansen worked as a news presenter, alongside Mal Walden, for Ten News Melbourne from 1996 until 2006. Performing this role for more than ten years, Hansen and Walden became the longest serving news duo in Australia's television history, maintaining strong ratings and winning widespread support among viewers. With Network Ten then broadcasting the Melbourne Cup Carnival, she also took on the role of hosting the 'Fashions on the Field' event at Flemington. In 2002, Hansen also took over the writing of a column for the Sunday Herald Sun - 'Tales of a Modern Woman' for seven months. Hansen returned to the media industry during the 2008 Olympics, reading news for the ABC's Australia Network. The news service is televised to 43 countries overseas. She then continued a news-reading role with the ABC throughout 2009.
In 2010, Hansen began writing a weekly column for the Saturday Herald Sun, called 'The Other Half' This involved interviewing the partners of successful Australians. In 2011, the column changed to 'Q & A with Jennifer Hansen' and involves interviews with high-profile Australians.
