“We moved to Oshawa Ontario, which is a suburb of Toronto, when I was five from Montreal and then we moved back there when I was twelve, but the time I was in Ontario is when I fell in love with movies and realized that no matter what, I wanted to be a part of movies. So how I got started acting was I starting taking these acting classes when I was twelve, like once a week at the bottom of the church basement in Montreal, and then I audition for a Concordia student film and then I got cast in it, and then some of the other actors on the student film had an actual agent and they recommended me to him. So here I am, eleven years later.” Jay Baruchel

Jay Baruchel is no stranger to the stage. At age 13, he made his acting debut as a guest in an October 1995 episode of the Nickelodeon’s children's horror/drama-themed series "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" He followed it up with a lead role in the one-episode series "My Hometown" on Canada's children's network YTV.

From 1997 to 1998, Jay became a host of the syndicated children's educational series "Popular Mechanics for Kids," which also started the career of fellow Canadian Elisa Cuthbert. Afterward, he returned to the horror/drama-themed series "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" playing several recurring roles from 1999 to 2000. Moviegoers could also catch him playing a small, but memorable, role as a Led Zeppelin fan named Vic in writer-director Cameron Crowe's Oscar-nominated semi-autobiographical film, Almost Famous, starring Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson.

"He's a very in-the-moment actor. His lines and reactions don't feel scripted." "Undeclared" creator Judd Apatow on Jay Baruchel

2001 marked Jay with his star-making turn as the protagonist Steven Karp, a celibate geek in college, on Fox's half-hour sitcom created by Judd Apatow, "Undeclared." Unfortunately, despite receiving glowing reviews, Fox cancelled the show in March 2002 after it received poor ratings.

“Honestly, we all loved doing it as much as people loved watching it. A lot of jobs in television are just jobs. We’d all hang out and Seth and I would get together and watch ‘Undeclared’ and if people could only see what we do on our spare time. I wouldn’t say that about most casts, or about most shows.” Jay Baruchel (on “Undeclared”)

Following the demise of “Undeclared,” Jay was cast alongside James Van Der Beek, Ian Somerhalder, Shannyn Sossamon, Kip Pardue and Jessica Biel in Roger Avary's film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' 1987 novel, The Rules of Attraction. He also shared the screen with Oscar winners Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman in Clint Eastwood’s critically acclaimed dramatic boxing film, Million Dollar Baby (2004), playing the lovable Danger Barch.

The next year, Jay received the lead role of Art Frankel, a drug dealer and male hooker who desperately tries to make his girlfriend's (played by Sarah Lind) rotten life better, in writer-director David Ray's drama comedy Fetching Cody. Being asked about some of his biggest challenges with his character in Fetching Cody, Jay revealed, “My only concern was to make all of my decisions and all the lines I have to say and all of the conclusions that Art comes to on screen realistic. I didn’t do a lot of research into junkies or child hookers or whatever.”

Meanwhile, Jay also secured another TV regular role, as David "Skip" Ross, a young legal genius who can find no one to hire him because of his very young age, on WB's short-lived television courtroom drama "Just Legal" (2005-2006), opposite Don Johnson. He also had a recurring role, as Oswald Kittner (2006-2007), on CBS’ police procedural drama "Numb3rs."

“I have the T.V. show ‘Just Legal’ coming out. But what I am really proud of is the next movie called ‘I’m Reed Fish’ with me and Alexis Bledel, Victor Rasuk, Schuyler Fisk, Chris Parnell, Katey Sagal- all sorts of great actors. It’s written by a guy named Reed Fish and I play Reed Fish, so of course I am excited about this movie. Go see the movie ‘I’m Reed Fish,’ and someone asks ‘Who do you play?’ and I can say ‘Reed Fish,’ and that feels great. But again, young crew, small budget and really creative atmosphere. It’s just going to look beautiful. I’ve already seen what some of it looks like and it will either hit huge or no one will hear about it. It will either fall flat or do really well and I have faith in it and I think we made ourselves a really great movie.” Jay Baruchel

Jay has completed his upcoming film, I'm Reed Fish, a romantic comedy by Zackary Adler in which he will play the titular role. He will also star with Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl and Paul Rudd in writer-director Judd Apatow's comedy film, Knocked Up, which is scheduled for a June 2007 release.

Currently, Jay is on set and will soon wrap up writer-director Randall Cole's comedic drama Real Time (opposite Randy Quaid), Chaz Thorne's comedy Pushing Up Daisies (he will star as the heir of a dying funeral parlor), and Kyle Newman's comedic adventure drama Fanboys (with Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler and Kristen Bell). He is also set to appear alongside Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. in the comedy feature Tropic Thunder, which is directed and starred in by Ben Stiller.
