James Pitt is an American film actor, born near Orlando, Florida. He is best known for his supporting role in the 2009 James Cameron science fiction film Avatar. After training for six years in Orlando, Pitt moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue a professional acting career; he spent his first few years in Hollywood continuing his education with several respected acting coaches and schools, with a focus on film.
In 2006 he collaborated with director Robert Fernandez and Jim Hanks, brother of actor Tom Hanks, in There/Not There, a short film which was screened and well received at Creative Artists Agency, in which he played a Marine who suffered a catastrophic brain injury in the First Battle of Fallujah. Pitt’s recent role as space shuttle pilot in Avatar marks a major milestone in his career and has been covered in several media outlets. He said about working directly with the film's director, James Cameron,"It was so apparent that he loves what he does. His contagious energy made it really hard to walk away when the shooting was done."
