Ivete Sangalo, born on May 27, 1972 in Juazeiro, Bahia, is the popular Brazilian female singer based on album sales. Although she only honed her singing skills at school, Ivete was a natural and eventually landed a spot at local bars. Through her performances, Ivete Sangalo was discovered and signed by Sony in 1993. When the label company decided to reform ‘Banda Eva,’ Sangalo became the lead singer until 1999 and released six albums with the group, including Banda Eva’s best-selling album “Banda Eva Ao Vivo,” which sold over a million copies.
In 1999, Ivete Sangalo began a solo career by releasing her self-titled debut album, which received platinum certification. After releasing another successful album “Beat Beleza” in 2000, Ivete Sangalo suffered a two-year fallback on the albums “Se Eu Não te Amasse Tanto Assim” and “Clube Carnavalesco Inocentes Em Progresso,” which were the only albums of Ivete that didn’t receive platinum certification. She quickly revived her career in 2004 when the live album “MTV Live: Ivete Sangalo” was released with some of her biggest hits. When the DVD version of this live album was released in 2004, it became the best-selling music-related DVD of all time.
On her triple-platinum 2005 “As Supernovas” album, Ivete Sangalo included a revival of the Gilberto Gil song, “Soy Loco por ti America” that became the theme song of the soap ‘America,’ and the song “Quando a Chuva Passar,” which was nominated for a Latin Grammy award. After performing at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the DVD “Multishow Ao Vivo - Ivete No Maracanã” was released in May 2007. The following year, Ivete Sangalo released the album “A Casa Amarela” and worked on a children’s album with Banda Eva lead singer Saulo Fernandes.
Ivete Sangalo is the richest Brazilian entertainer and the highest-paid concert acts with a paycheck of up to $1 million per concert.
