Frederique Van Der Wal was born Aug. 30, 1967, in Holland. When she was still a teenager she won the prestigious Elite "Look of the Year" contest and went on to win the international competition in Mauritius. She landed a contract with Elite Model Management but elected to complete high school before starting her career. When she turned 18, she deferred acceptance to Holland's University of Economics, moved to New York City, and was later featured on the covers of Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, and Madamoiselle.
The 5'11" model is well-known for her ties to Revlon and Guess?, but it is her work as the face of Victoria's Secret that has gained her the most recognition. Quite business savvy, Van Der Wal has launched a line of lingerie, a workout video, a collection of bath products, and a calendar. She has also appeared in the films 54, Wild Wild West, and The Venice Project.
During her free time, the model enjoys skiing, mountain climbing, reading, going to the movies, and playing field hockey and tennis. She and screenwriter Nicholas Klein have a daughter.
