Federica Pellegrini, an Italian swimmer, was born on August 5, 1988 in Mirano, which is a province of Venice, and currently resides in Verona.
Her father, Roberto, used to be a parachutist and works in a luxury hotel in Venice at present. Her mother is the secretary at the swimming pool in via Olimpia, which is located in Mestre. Another sports legend from her family was her grandfather, Gastone, who had been an Italian wrestling champion.
Federica Pellegrini was a part of Serenissima Nuoto, which was her first club, and was coached by Elena Piatto. At present, she swims for C.C. Aniene club, where she is coached by Gianni Nagni and Alberto Castagnetti.
Federica Pellegrini made her first Olympic appearance at the 2004 Athens Olympics and took away a silver medal for her second-place finish in the 200 m freestyle event. She participated at the World Championships – Long Course, held at Montreal in 2005 and won a silver medal in the 200 m freestyle event. In the same year, Federica Pellegrini won her first gold medal at the European Championships – Short Course for her impressive performance in the 200 m freestyle held in Trieste. The following year, Federica Pellegrini participated in the World Championships – Short Course held at Shanghai and took home a silver medal for her excellent perofmance in the 200 m freestyle event. She also won a bronze medal in the 400 m freestyle event at the same tournament. At the European Championships – Short Course, she finished second and won a silver medal in the 400 m freestyle event.
Federica Pellegrini added another silver medal to her medals tally in 2007 when she finished second in the 400 m freestyle event. She is the 2008 European Champion of the 400 m freestyle event, in which she created the world record in the women’s 400 m freestyle event with a time of 4:01.53. On March 24, 2008, Federica Pellegrini achieved this feat in the final of the European Championships held at Eindhoven. She also won a silver and bronze medal at the same championships in 4 x 100 m freestyle and 4 x 200 m freestyle relay events.
Federica Pellegrini had the biggest victory in her career when she won her first Olympic gold medal in the 400 m freestyle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Here, she set new world records in both the heats and the final and clocked 1:54.82 in the latter.
Federica Pellegrini is 177 cm tall, weighs 59 kg, and her specialty in swimming is Free Style. She participates in 50, 100, 200 and 400 m freestyle, and 4 x 100 m freestyle relay events, out of which she prefers participating in 100 m, 200 m, and 400 m freestyle evetns. Her personal best in the 50 m freestyle is 25.47 seconds and in the 100 m freestyle is 54.40 seconds.
Federica Pellegrini is a fan of the Juventus football club and admires Valentino Rossi, an Italian professional motorcycle racer and a multiple MotoGP World Champion. Apart from her swimming, she loves puppets and teddies, and music is her favorite hobby. Federica Pellegrini has also featured in the covers of few magazines in Italy.
