Fanshen Cox is an actrESS, filmmaker and educator. She holds a BA in Spanish, an MA in Teaching ESL and an MFA in TV, Film and Theater. She served 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cape Verde, West Africa and was one of the first recipients of the Peace Corps' Franklin H. Williams Award. She has honed her acting and producing skills as a Film Independent Project:Involve Fellow, as an Education Intern at Moviola Digital Arts Institute, as co-founder/co-producer of the Mixed Roots Film & Literary Festival and co-creator/co-host of the award-winning podcast Mixed Chicks Chat. Her parents are Jamaican, Danish, Cherokee and Blackfoot Indian. She is deeply committed to abolishing the notion of 'race' through storytelling. She is named after William Hinton's book: 'Fanshen' which means 'start a revolution.'
