Getting her start as a ballet dancer, Emily VanCamp made the shift to acting follow in the footsteps of her older sister. She first appeared in 2000’s Canadian television “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” playing a two-part role, Peggy Gregory. Her first major role arrived later that same year when she was cast as the young Jacqueline Bouvier in the CBS miniseries “Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis,” starring Joanne Whaley. This was followed by guest roles in “Radio Active” (2000) and “All Souls” (2001) and a part, as Johanna Wilson, in “Dice” (2001), a thriller miniseries helmed by Rachel Talalay. Also in 2001, the actress made her film debut by playing the supporting role of Allison Moller in the Sundance screened Lost and Delirious, about life at a private girls’ school. The indie-drama starred Piper Perabo, Jessica Paré and Mischa Barton.
The following year saw VanCamp return to television film as Elena in The Redeemer, which starred Matthew Modine. She went to have a regular role in the WB short-lived series “Glory Days” (2002, as Sam Dolan) and a cameo role as Connie in the independent movie The House on Turk Street (2002), opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Milla Jovovich.
However, the young actress did not gain a career breakthrough until she landed a costarring regular role in The WB series “Everwood” (2002-2006), also shown on ITV. Debuted in 2002, the Monday night drama soon became a hit, becoming the best show ever to have been on the network. As for VanCamp, her shining performance, as the sensitive and beautiful Amy Abbott, on the hit show won her audience and critics’ attention. As a result, she collected several nominations, including four Teen Choice in the categories of Choice TV Actress-Drama/Action Adventure and Choice TV Chemistry, as well as a Young Artist for Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) - Supporting Young Actress.
While working on “Everwood,” VanCamp continued to pursue her film career. She portrayed the daughter of Sharon Stone in the 2004 drama A Different Loyalty and was cast as Emily in the thriller The Ring Two (2005), opposite Naomi Watts, Simon Baker and Sissy Spacek. In early 2006, she could be seen as Kathleen in the indie-drama Black Irish, for director-writer Brad Grann.
The 21-year-old actress will play supporting role Kate on the forthcoming American film Carriers, for 2007 release. Among her costars in the drama/horror feature are Chris Pine, Piper Perabo and Christopher Meloni.
