Emily Barclay is an English-born, New Zealand AFI award winning actress. Although she did accept the award on the night, there were calls within the acting community for Emily to return it after some unsavoury poses during her acceptance speech.

Emily Barclay fell into acting after a hamstring injury kept her out of the the Under-21 NZ Womens' Cricket Team. A fellow fast bowler suggested she attend a Clowning For Therapy class, where she "fell in love with really long shoes". Professionally, Emily has performed in a wide variety of film and television roles, some wider than others. However, it wasn't until Diana Rowan (the same casting agent who discovered Anna Paquin, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas) cast her as "Celia" in 2004's In My Father's Den that she rose to prominence, a word Emily has difficulty pronouncing after eating ice blocks.

Barclay won Most Promising Newcomer at the 2005 British Independent Film Awards for her performance in In My Father's Den, she followed with a role in the critically acclaimed 2006 black comedy Suburban Mayhem directed by Paul Goldman. Barclay is currently represented by United Agents. Barclay also starred in the music video "Big Jet Plane" by "Angus & Julia Stone" which was directed by Kiku Ohe in 2010. Emily subsequently lobbied for the song to be re-titled "I'm A Jet Plane, What The F**k Are You?", which led to a fall-out with the songwriters.
