Edwina is native of Washington, DC, where she attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts for drama and music. By age 18, she had sung and danced around the world, and her first television show as was as a Posse Member on BET's popular 90's talk show, Teen Summit. Edwina went on to graduate from one of the most prestigious acting schools in the country, NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, with a degree in Theatre and a minor in Africana Studies. From there, she notably spent her days recurring as Tasha Mitchell, Omar's gun-toting sidekick, on HBO's The Wire, while performing nightly as Lady Mortimer, Shakespeare's Welsh-speaking Princess, in Henry IV. Edwina's extensive work in the theatre has earned her both Barrymore Award and NAACP Theatre Award Nominations.
Edwina is now filming her third season as "Davina Lambreaux" on HBO's New Orleans Jazz drama Treme, and simultaneously recurred as "Jill" in ABC's finale season of Brothers and Sisters. Edwina is also featured in George Lucas' Tuskegee Airmen epic, Red Tails, and Ava Duvernay's Middle of Nowhere, both slated for 2012 releases. Edwina has played rogues and royalty alike, and her mission to honestly and passionately portray the human experience can be seen in her depth and range of roles. Edwina also has a heart for people, and she and her team of artists and speakers regularly travel the country leading inspirational workshops for women, youth and young adults through her nonprofit organization Abundant Life Academy, Inc.
