Initially working as the executive director of Dale Al Voto, a Venezuelan non-profit, non-partisan political advocacy organization similar to Los Angeles’ Rock The Vote, Edgar Ramirez later decided to pick acting as a full time job. First appearing on screen in 1993 in the Spanish horror/comedy movie ¡Aquí espaantan!, written and directed by Joaquín Bissner, Edgar returned in 2002 with a co-starring role in director Alejandro Wiedemann's Nudo, El.
He then became popular among TV viewers while playing Cacique Chacon in Venevisión’s hit soap opera “Cosita Rica” (2003-2004). Meanwhile, he also continued to add to his film-acting resume with roles in the Spanish films Yotama se va volando (2003), a romantic drama mystery by Luis Armando Roche, and Punto y raya (2004; a.k.a. A Dot and a Line), an action/drama by Elia Schneider in which he was cast as Pedro, a rural Colombian laborer. Punto y raya later became Venezuela's official submission for the 2005 Oscar Awards for the Foreign Language film category. He also appeared in the romantic TV series "Ser bonita no basta" (2005).
Edgar eventually stepped into Hollywood in 2005 with his major motion picture debut, Tony Scott’s Domino. In the film, based loosely on the true story of Domino Harvey (played by Keira Knightley), Edgar co-starred as Choco, one of Domino's sidekicks and her love interest.
Following his Hollywood debut, Edgar returned to his country to film Harold López Garroz's 15-minute project Atenea y Afrodita (2005), playing Eliana López's ex-boyfriend, and José Ramón Novoa's action film Don, El (2006). He also appeared in writer-director Eduardo Arias-Nath's crime/drama/thriller Elipsis (2006).
Next, Edgar will return to Hollywood in Pete Travis' upcoming drama/thriller about the attempted assassination of the president, Vantage Point. The film, set for an October 5, 2007, release, stars Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, William Hurt, Forest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver. He will also co-star opposite Matt Damon, Joan Allen, Julia Stiles, David Strathairn and Paddy Considine in Paul Greengrass' adaptation of Robert Ludlum's bestselling novel, The Bourne Ultimatum, scheduled to be released on August 3, 2007.
