Dan O'Connor shot to fame in 2004 as a contestant in the talent show Australian Idol. Before auditioning for the show, Dan was a graphic designer and youth worker at a church in Mount Annan. After just two weeks in the finals on Australian Idol, Dan was eliminated in 11th place. Shortly after leaving Australian Idol, Dan starred in a mobile soap opera for mobile phones called Random Place. The show was about five people sharing a house in Bondi Beach, and it was the first television show produced in a mobile format in Australia. After his stint on Random Place, Dan was cast in the role of Ned Parker on long-running Australian soap Neighbours in 2005.
