Chantal L. Kreviazuk was born on May 18, 1973 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her parents, Carol and John Kreviazuk are of Ukranian and Pakistani origin. At age 3, Chantal began playing piano, from ear. Her talent was much encouraged by her mother, Carol. In 1994, while finding herself in Italy, Chantal was in a motorcycle accident. She began thinking it was time to take her musical talents seriously. In 1996, she was finally signed to Sony Canada. Her debut, critically acclaimed album, "Under these rocks and stones" was released later that year and in 1997 in the States. Her first single,"God made me" was slow to take off, even in Canada. It eventually peaked at #15 on the Muchmusic Top 30.But it was her second single,"Surrounded" , a song about the tragic suicide of her first love, that got Chantal noticed. It went to #7 on the Muchmusic 30 and #19 on the Adult top 40. Other singles include, "Wayne", #9 on the Muchmusic Top 30, and "Believer". In 1998, Chantal recorded a cover of John Denver's, "Leaving on a jetplane" for the Armageddon soundtrack. She enjoyed having a double platinum album. Chantal's sophomore album, "Colour moving and Still" was released in late 1999 and early 2000 in the States. The lead single, "Before You" received great airplay and went to #9 on the Muchmusic 30. The song was about her then fiance, OLP frontman, Raine Maida. Other singles include, "Dear Life", and "Faraway". These three singles went to #1 on the Muchmoremusic 30. Another radio singles was, "Souls". This album also went double platinum. And in December of 1999, Chantal tied the knot with Raine Maida. She then pretty much disappeared from the public eye, until 2002, when she released her third album, "What if it all means something". It was then released in early 2003 in the states. The first single, "In this life" had massive airplay, on both sides of the border. It eventually went to #17 on the Adult Top 40. The album and Chantal began getting recognition south of the border and WITAMS debuted at #2 on the Album Heatseekers chart. The album also went to #119 on the Billboard 200 and received mixed reviews.
