Cerys Matthews who was born on 11 April 1969 in Cardiff, Wales, is a famous Welsh singer and a song writer. She is the daughter of a surgeon and was raised in Swansea and Pembrokeshire. Cerys Matthews did her schooling at St Michael's School in Llanelli and learned to play guitar at the age of nine. She also developed interest and leaned to sing blues and rude Irish folk songs. During her brief period in Spain where she worked at the Pembrokeshire County Council, she learned to speak Spanish and Catalan. Cerys Matthews became a member of the Welsh rock band Catatonia, which was formed in 1992 and sang several hits songs like "You've Got a Lot to Answer For", "Mulder and Scully", "Dead From the Waist Down" and "Road Rage" as a lead singer. Until the second guitarist Owen Powell joined the band, she also played guitar for it. With the release of second album, International Velvet, and subsequent success with third release, Equally Cursed And Blessed, Catatonia was at the peak of success. Cerys Matthews has also performed a single "The Ballad of Tom Jones" with an indie rock band from Liverpool, Space, the song peaked at number four in the charts in March 1998. She partnered with the famous Welsh pop music singer, Tom Jones, to record a version of a song "Baby, It's Cold Outside". The lyrics and music of the song was composed by a famous American songwriter, Frank Loesser. This song was a part of the album Reload, which was released in 1999. Following her impressive performances, Cerys Matthews was voted as "Sexiest Female in Rock" in a 1999 readers' poll by magazine, Melody Maker. On 20 March 2007, she appeared at the 'Guilty Pleasures' concert at the Hackney Empire, London, and performed Bonnie Tyler hit 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' and the duet of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers 'Islands in the Stream' along with singer, Terry Hall, and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Cerys Matthews released her Welsh mini-album, Awyren = Aeroplane, on 15 October 2007 and appeared on the ITV reality show, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here!, season seven. She joined the Welsh band, Manic Street Preachers, and sang their 2007 hits “Your Love Alone Is Not Enough” at The O2 on 28 February 2008, at NME Shockwaves Awards and then at the 'Big Gig' live show.
