Brandon Bass is an American professional basketball player who currently plays as a power forward for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A 6'8", 250 lb power forward from LSU, Bass was selected by the Hornets in the 2nd round (33rd overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. He originally declared for the draft after his freshman season in 2004 but ultimately withdrew his name and returned to college. In 2005, he again declared for the draft after his sophomore season at LSU, where he was named the 2005 SEC Player of the Year.
Bass prepped at Capitol High School in Baton Rouge where he was one of the most sought-after recruits in the country his senior year. On July 26, 2007, Bass agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. He signed through the 2008-09 season with a $1.59 million contract. During the 2008-09 season, Bass made a turnaround jumper to give Jason Kidd his 10,000th career assist. On July 10, 2009, Bass signed a contract with the Orlando Magic. He was traded to the Boston Celtics in December 2011 for Glen Davis and Von Wafer. In his first regular season game with Boston, Bass played 28 minutes, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a loss to the New York Knicks on Christmas Day 2011. Over his first year with the Celtics, Bass averaged 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds at 31.7 minutes a game.
On May 21, 2012, Bass tallied a career playoff high 27 points to assist the Boston Celtics to a 3-2 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics won that series, but were eliminated in the next round by the Miami Heat. On July 14, 2012, Bass re-signed with the Celtics on a 3 year, $20 million dollar contract. His younger brother, Chris Bass, played basketball in college for the LSU Tigers basketball team.
