Bonnie Wright was originally cast as Ginny Weasley for a small scene in the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), set at King's Cross Station. Her role became more prominent with the second movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), in which her character begins studies at Hogwarts while dealing with a very powerful secret diary that begins to seize her soul and consciousness. Wright's role in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), was significantly smaller, leaving her with only one line of dialogue. However, the character became a bonafide supporting character in the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), with dialogue sprinkled across several scenes and perhaps the most screentime yet. She has since finished filming her role in the fifth Potter saga, Order of the Phoenix, due out on July 13th of 2007.
Wright has also starred in two television movies: 2002's Stranded and 2004's Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures playing the younger version of Agatha Christie.
