Beth Gibbons is an English singer and songwriter. Her career music industry grows with English band Portishead, in which she is the lead vocal.
Beth was raised doing work on the farm where at a day, everyone on the family would roll up their sleeves than write or listen to music. When night came, Beth wisely used it to listen to records and stayed with her mother at home. Friends at her age would go downtown.
Beth decided not to attend university and chose her singing career, instead. She moved to Bristol and after meeting Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley, the three started Portished.
Portishead's debut album "Dummy" was released in 1994. Getting a high compliment, their single "Sour Times (Nobody Loves Me)," made its way to number 13 on the UK charts without a video or major radio airplay. In 1995, the band was awarded the Mercury Prize for best British Album.
The self-titled "Portishead", came in 1997 as their second album. It was recorded in a small studio Beth built in her country home.
Their third was released on 29 April 2008 with title "Third", which had previously been aired on the internet.
Beth has also contributed her songs, along with Portished, as soundtracks for some movies, such as "Road" for "The Watcher" (2000), "Glory Box" for "Lord of War" (2005), and "Mysteries" for "Palermo Shooting" (2008).
