"My parents wanted me to go out and play and read a book instead of being glued to a TV." Azura Skye.
At the tender age of 3, Azura Skye started her acting career in community theater and began touring Europe with the Santa Monica Playhouse theater group at the age of 11. She also continued her acting studies in England.
Azura made her screen debut at age 15 with guest spots on CBS series "Touched by an Angel" and "Chicago Hope." She also had a featured role in Alone, a Horton Foote-written movie on Showtime starring Hume Cronyn, James Earl Jones and Shelly Duvall, and appeared in the ABC children's mystery movie R.L. Stine's Ghosts of Fear Street, co-starring as an insect enthusiast whose father metamorphoses into a bug when he gets nervous. Additionally she was cast as a young runaway in the CBS fact-based family movie starring Maureen O'Hara, Cab to Canada (1998).
In 1999, Azura landed a regular role as Jane Cooper, Michael Rosenbaum's Jack's sarcastic and cynical twin sister on the WB’s teen sitcom "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane," alongside Selma Blair and David Moscow. She stayed on the show until 2000 and was nominated a YoungStar Award for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Comedy TV Series.
“On ‘Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane,’ I had to play air guitar. I felt stupid and knew I looked stupid. They ended up cutting the scene altogether, so apparently they agreed!” Azura Skye.
Meanwhile, she made big screen debut with an appearance in Ron Howard's media satire EDtv (1999; starring Matthew McConaughey, Jenna Elfman, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Hurley), an adaptation of the locally successful Quebecois movie “Louis 19, le roi des ondes” released in 1994. She also played the supporting role of Andrea, the former heroin addict teenager who befriends Sandra Bullock’s character in Betty Thomas' slick but occasionally enjoyable flick set in rehab, 28 Days (2000).
"She's this huge movie star yet she's totally oblivious to what that means. She's so normal, so gracious, a wonderful, giving person." Azura Skye (on 28 Days (2000) co-star Sandra Bullock).
Afterward, Azura was featured in Peter Chelsom's romantic comedy film starring Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton, Town & Country (2001), appeared in Barry Levinson's Bandits (2001), a heist drama about a trio of fugitives played by Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett, and had a small part in D.J. Caruso's indie sleeper starring Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio, The Salton Sea (2002). On the small screen, she could be seen starring as Iris, the titular character in the well received ABC movie Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (2002) and was spotted as a guest in a January 2002 episode of the WB/CW popular series "Smallville." Also in that year, she landed a recurring role as Cassie Newton on the WB/UPN cult TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
The next year, Azura received another recurring role, this time as Susie Barnam Keaton (2003-2005) on the crime drama series "CSI: Miami," a spin-off of the popular CBS network series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” During that time, she also continued her film works in Marleen Gorris' romantic comedy Carolina (2003; starring Julia Stiles and Shirley MacLaine), writer-director Jessica Kavana's drama comedy Thanks to Gravity (2005; starring Sean Astin and Gina Philips), writer-director Ken Kwapis' drama-comedy Sexual Life (2005; with Eion Bailey and Elizabeth Banks) and the Wilson brothers' romantic drama comedy The Wendell Baker Story.
2006 saw Azura with another recurring role as Skyler in the comedy series "The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman" (starring Laura Kightlinger). Meanwhile, she was cast in Goran Dukic's romantic drama comedy movie Wristcutters: A Love Story, with Patrick Fugit and Shannyn Sossamon, and writer-director Terry Green's drama film Heavens Fall, starring Timothy Hutton, David Strathairn and Leelee Sobieski. She also guest starred in a September 2006 episode of Fox's animated sitcom "American Dad!"
Azura just wrapped Rodger Grossman's biopic of punk legend Darby Crash and his band, "the Germs," What We Do Is Secret, starring Shane West. She will also soon complete Jim Torres' sci-fi movie Like Moles, Like Rats, and Eric Valette's remake of the Japanese horror film Chakushin Ari (2003), One Missed Call, alongside Edward Burns and Shannyn Sossamon (Azura played Sossamon's best friend Leann Cole).
"I've been fortunate enough to work with really wonderful people. I've been working for five years and I've worked with some amazing veterans of this business and I've learned so much." Azura Skye.
