Aston Merrygold is a British singer with boy band JLS who were the runners-up to Alexandra Burke in the fifth series of The X Factor in the United Kingdom in 2008. In 2013, he became a judge on the British dance talent show Got to Dance.
After meeting Marvin Humes through acting jobs, they were both later recruited to form a boyband, UFO, by an acquaintance of Humes, Oritse Williams. Jonathan Benjamin "JB" Gill was recruited soon after, and they later changed their name to JLS. In 2008, they auditioned for the fifth series of The X Factor, where they went on to become the runners-up, finishing second to Alexandra Burke. They are one of the most successful groups ever to come out of The X Factor, alongside 2010's One Direction. The band have released four studio albums (JLS, Outta This World, Jukebox, and Evolution) and have had five number ones to date along with four top ten singles, and one top twenty single.
Their last tour was the 4th Dimensions Tour, which began in March and lasted until April 2012. In August 2012, Merrygold was confirmed as a judge on Sky1 dance talent show Got to Dance, replacing former judge Adam Garcia's position on the judging panel. After four years of being single, Merrygold started dating JLS backing dancer Sarah Richards in June 2012. The couple met after Sarah performed with them on their 4th Dimension Tour in March/April 2012. Sarah has performed with the likes of Take That, Peter Andre and Diversity and has appeared dancing on shows such as The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. She has also been in theatre shows Into The Hoods and Some Like It Hip Hop by Zoo Nation UK.
