Although singing starlets of Australian birthright are never thin on the ground, the sparkling persona and insightful lyrics of British Songbird Amy Pearson have struck a chord with homegrown audiences. The singer, who has had considerable success down under with her first album 'Who I Am', actually grew up in the UK. She was singing at age 3, writing songs at age 6, and during her teenage years entered countless talent competitions and later joined a band.
It was Take That’s Gary Barlow, revered as one of the UK’s most successful and talented songwriter, who first noticed 17 year old Amy Pearson when she was working for a production comany.
Gary was blown away by what he called her ‘natural talent’ and began introducing her to industry executives without delay, one of which happened to be SonyBMG Australia's future A&R director. It wasn’t long before Amy found her way on-route to Australia, to sign with the label.
She immediately began working feverishly on her debut album, assisted by those responsible for helping international pop artist Natasha Bedingfield, Kelly Clarkson, Delta Goodrem and P!nk on their way to superstardom.
As is sometimes the case, it was her ability to draw on personal experienced that lent her songwriting depth and scope. And presuming most have suffered from a broken heart in their lifetime, it's stories most will relate to.
'When I first moved to Australia I was in a long-distance relationship and unfortunately one day I received a call from him telling me that it was all over. It was that experience that really formed the backbone of the songs for the bulk of my album'
Amys debut ‘Who I am’ is out now.
