When South Jamaica, Queens, rapper Ali Vegas entered the New York hip-hop scene in the late '90s, he was labeled as the next breed of poignant and reflective rap artists to follow in the footsteps of that borough's important MCs, like Kool G Rap, Nas, and Mobb Deep. Nonetheless, during the 2000s the hype and his potential shot for hip-hop stardom succumbed to record label woes, delaying the release of his first official album. Vegas was first signed to Columbia through hitmaking production duo Poke & Tone and their Trackmasters imprint, but was dropped once Trackmasters lost the distribution deal in the early 2000s. The Queens rapper then signed to ex-Sony president Tommy Motolla's fledgling Casablanca Records; however, the label became inactive for some time after its star signee, Lindsay Lohan, was moved over to Motown by parent company Universal in 2006. In between record deals, Vegas was a regular on the New York mixtape circuit with various street releases and singles, which were sometimes intended as lead-up songs to his major-label debut, like "The AV Theme," a Kanye West production sampling the SpongeBob SquarePants theme. To avoid more industry red tape, he founded his own Council Recordings, but eventually wound up joining NBA player Lamar Odom's Rich Soil Entertainment in 2006 as its flagship artist. After all the troubles and tribulations, he prepped his self-titled, solo debut for a 2008 release.
Ali Vegas is an underground rap artist from South Jamaica, Queens, New York. He is a close childhood friend of NBA Player Lamar Odom (Odom often affectionately calls Vegas his "cousin"; however, they are not related). He is currently signed to Odom's label Rich Soil. His album, Generation Gap 2: The Prequel will release Summer of 2008. Ali began his career in the late 90’s. The self proclaimed “Prince of New York” hails from Jamaica, Queens. In 2006 Ali Vegas signed to Lamar Odom’s label, Rich Soil Entertainment where he has worked with producers ranging from J Nice to Midi Mafia. Vegas began rapping at age 6 and since has had a string of hits including Gangsta Boogie, The Apology, and the Specialists which was featured on the ‘In Too Deep’ soundtrack. Ali’s new album will include collaborations with Nas, AZ, Styles, Akon, Sammie, Deemi and others as well. This album will feature production by DJ Premier, L.E.S, Scott Storch, Cool & Dre, J-Nice, Baron Boys, Midi Mafia and more... Vegas is also the co-owner of Rich Soil Entertainment, which he shares with Lamar Odom and is the owner of Council Recordings, home to the likes of underground favorites such as R.A.P., TRL, ImSoHood, and a long list of others...
One of the most recognizable names in hip-hop, Ali Vegas began his career in the late nineties as a fresh faced teenager from Jamaica, Queens. Often compared to the greats in the game, Ali Vegas was instantly recognized for his masterful flow. Five years removed from his first deal with the Track Masters, (where he was once a label-mate with the then unknown 50 Cent) Ali Vegas has been a steady fixture in mixtapes, heralded as one of Hip-Hop's most underrated emcees. At only twenty two years old, the self proclaimed "Prince of New York" is a veteran of the industry with his share of setbacks; from being released by Columbia in 2000 to a now defunct deal with Tommy Matolla's Casablanca Records in 2005 to a much publicized beef with DJ Clue and Fabolous (in the form of the classic diss track, "The Apology"), none of which has hindered his passion for music. In 2006, Ali Vegas decided to take matters into his own hands through Lamar Odom's label, Rich Soil Entertainment. The first solo act leading Rich Soil, Ali Vegas looks ready to bring hip-hop back to its lyrical days not seen since a young Nas, Biggie and Jay-Z graced the mic. Outspoken, self-empowered and intelligent, Ali Vegas is one of hip-hop's most gifted emcees with enough content and lyrical dexterity to secure his position as the Prince of New York.
